Were you born in a barn?

board members

How many times have you been asked that, and sheepishly and cowardly offered the reply, "No." Well, we here at Soapbox Players are delighted to proudly and honestly answer, "Yes, we were!" Few can make that claim to fame!

In the fall of 2004, a dedicated, enthusiastic group of theater aficionados in Red Wing, Minnesota decided to take to heart the old theater call from Babes in Arms, "Hey we've got a barn... let's do a show!" Thus, Soapbox Players was born on a cold winter's night in a lowly stable in Bethle... oh, sorry, wrong story... Soapbox Players was established at the Hobgoblin Music Barn in rural Red Wing. After two years of hesitation, articulation, imagination, hibernation, anticipation, inclination, deliberation, abstination, desperation, preperation, cultivation, exploration, regurgitation, agitation, sensation deprivation, and finally, jubilation in celebration; the group's debut performance was Necessary Targets, directed by Min MartinOakes and presented in September of 2006.

Soapbox Players is the ripened idea, fruit of the labor, wonderous love child born of prolonged discourse and intercourse among the fertile minds of the following: Sean Dowse, Kik Gheen, Julie Martin, Min MartinOakes, Michelle Meyer, Greg Nixon, David Oakes, Helene Olson-Reed, Eve Stone, Gary Stone, and Sandra Worner.

Since the inception of Soapbox Players, many successful productions have been enjoyed by our ever growing and appreciative audiences. Pictures of those shows are here on the website for your perusal. We welcome you to join us in the barn for any future productions. Current members that supply the duct tape, staples, glue, time, talent, and beverage that hold us together and plan our productions include: Sean Dowse, Julie Martin, Min MartinOakes, Michelle Meyer, Greg Nixon, David Oakes, Helene Olson-Reed, Karen O'Reilly, Emily Seefeldt, Scott Tidaback, Eve Stone, Gary Stone and Jeff Chalmers.
